Driven Soil Nails – Lake Townsend

Raw Water Intake and Pumping Station
Guilford County, North Carolina

Morrison Engineers designed and installed 8800sf of driven soil nail with a battered flexible face for excavation support for the construction of a new Pump Station at the Lake Townsend Reservoir near Greensboro, NC.

The Pump Station footprint was approximately 70 foot by 45 foot in plan and the excavation depth reached 32 feet below existing grade.

Each 5 foot lift was installed in conjunction with Seaside Environmental’s excavation crew and interfaced with the sheetpile contractor’s shoring used to construct the intake piping installed out into the reservoir.
