Geotechnical Engineer

Phil returned to Morrison Engineers in 2017 after a previous stay from 2009 to 2013. In addition to three degrees from MIT, Phil has more than 30 years of research, teaching, and consulting experience in geotechnical engineering, and more than 17 years of project management experience.

Phil’s areas of expertise include slope stability analysis (particularly in residual soils), retaining wall design and analysis, earth dams, laboratory strength and deformation soil testing, in-situ field testing (including DMT, CPT, and seismic), field investigations, shallow and deep foundation design including micropiles, and seepage analysis. He also has design experience in tied-back soldier pile and lagging, sheetpile, and soil nailed retaining walls, and has performed mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall and slope designs.

Before moving south, Phil was born and raised in Massachusetts. He has two adult children, and when not working enjoys hiking, biking, golfing, and skiing.
