The Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral
The Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh and accommodates over 2,000 worshippers. Designed by the architecture firm of O'Brien & Keane, based in Arlington, Virginia, and built by Clancy & Theys Construction Company of Raleigh, North Carolina, it is the fifth-largest cathedral in the United States.
Morrison Engineers provided structural design for this 44,000-square-foot cathedral with a height of 173 feet to its finial. Our engineering team particularly enjoyed the challenge of taking the 60-foot, 162-ton copper dome that was constructed on the ground and figuring out how to lift it into place on top of the 80-foot building.
